Well, today I'm off with my sister and brother-in-law to Myrtle Beach to meet up with the rest of my family. Actually, it's a little south in Garden City. For quite a few years now, my parents and anyone else who can go have rented a house on the beach for a week or so before Memorial Day. We haven't gone the last couple of years, but this year we are off. I can remember going to Myrtle Beach with my grandparents when I was very young (it seems the earliest memories would be around 4 or 5 or so). We stayed in the Travel Lodge -- a very nice motel. It is still there, although with numerous additions. There were no large hotels at the time -- just small motels. The place has changed so much over the last 30 years. I have great memories of the pool, the arts and crafts workshops the motel put on for kids, and walking across the street (which wasn't all that busy at the time) to get to the beach. There were no buildings on the ocean side of the street at the time -- well, nothing substantial at least. Good memories. It is always very relaxing and a great time. The part of the beach by Garden City is private, which is kind of nice, although it really cuts down on the people watching.
This will be my nephew's first time at the ocean, and first time on an airplane. He and my sister-in-law will get there around 11:30 pm Saturday. I can't wait to play with my nephew and neither can my dad! Mom, Dad, Nana, Tony, Nichole, Cory, Laurie, and myself. Todd can't come because it is crunch time on his building at Case Western -- he works for an architecture firm (which would make him an architect! dah..). I wish he could be there too! I am hoping to have lots of pictures to post. All on regular film and then scanned. I'm waiting to the last minute to buy the digital cameras, etc., before I leave for NYC -- hopefully cheaper and better! Nothing more until the 27th at least. Oh, the final termite inspection of my house is taking place sometime next week. I haven't seen anymore, which is a relief! |
