10:15 pm

Its unusual for me to be writing this late. This will be short, but today ended up being a big day. After only three days of having a for sale sign in my front yard and a day before any viewings where to take place, I sold my house. I cannot believe it! Three days and full price! As my mom said, "praise God, maybe this is what you are supposed to be doing!"

I am stunned. It happened so quickly. Alan Zola, my realtor, put the for-sale sign on my yard Friday late afternoon. While Alan was out of town, Jean Kelly was working with Alan's accounts. She called me this morning at work right as I was getting ready to leave for a College Work Committee meeting in Cleveland. I was running very late, so I was going to ignore the call. Jean said she wanted to show the house today, if I could. I told her I couldn't. All I could do was think of the things I still needed to finish up before I felt comfortable showing the house, but after her gentle persuasion, I relented and let her show the house. They showed up at 3:40 pm, looked the place, then the two of them stood out in the drive way for around 10 minutes. Jean came back to her car and I asked if there was anything I needed to do -- she said, "are you going to be home tonight?" She was going to write up a contract! She stopped by again at around 6:00 pm with a contract in hand. We sat here and talked for a bit. I told her that I wasn't going to do anything until Alan came back tomorrow, but as we talked I changed my mind. After discussing possession dates, rent I would be paying, etc., she called the guy and he agreed. I will actually be paying a little less when I rent then I am paying now for utilities and my portion of the mortgage. I just can't believe it!

If I wasn't running late, I probably wouldn't have been at work to take her call. If she hadn't been persuasive, I would have insisted on waiting for Alan to return to begin showing the house. Even though I had to make a mad rush to return to put the house in some kind of order, it was certainly worth it! Now, I don't have to worry about always keeping the place spotless. I don't have to worry about whether it is going to sell in time. I don't have to worry about whether I am going to get enough money out of the house. I don't have to worry about whether something brakes. Now, I don't have to spend any more money buying things to improve the appearance. All I have to do is take care of it!! I don't have to buy any more grass seed. I don't have to buy quite as many flowers, etc. I can just enjoy my very large porch on sultry summer evenings. I can relax a bit.

I have been working none-stop, literally, for a month and a half putting things in order, making repairs, painting, painting, and more painting inside and out. I now have purple entrance doors. I just wanted to do it and they look great. I'm sick of painting, even though through it all I found it very therapeutic.

Okay, enough for now. I am just so relieved. Thank you, God!
